Brief Description
The TUD Dresden University of Technology (DRE) is one of the so called “Excellence Universities” and one of the nine leading Universities (TU9) in Germany. In the project ASSESS, DRE is represented by the Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology. This consists of an interdisciplinary team of approx. 250 employees which have longstanding experience in the entire “material, design, simulation, assembly, prototype testing, cost” value chain. For the current research project, the specialized knowledge in the development of composite components with e.g., integrated piezo-ceramic modules as well as in applying a wide range of manufacturing and measurement techniques is available.

Role in the ASSESS project
Host:
Doctoral Candidate 11 (Link to DC profile)
Research topic:
Research topic: Smart FRP spacecraft structures under cryogenic conditions.
Scientific part in ASSESS: The main objective of DRE is the development of PZT sensor networks suitable for space applications. Therefore, technological, experimental and numerical simulative aspects for the sensor integration into CFRPs with special emphasis on cryogenic conditions will be addressed.
Work Package involvement in WP1 and WP2.
